Flexible Printed Circuit Board, also known as "FPC Circuit Board", is a printed circuit made of flexible insulation substrate, which has many advantages that hard printed circuit boards do not have. FPC circuit boards have been widely used in fields such as aerospace, military, mobile communication, laptops, computer peripherals, PDAs, digital cameras, etc.



1. The advantages of flexible circuit boards are as follows:



(1) It can be freely bent, wound, folded, arranged according to spatial layout requirements, and moved and expanded freely in three-dimensional space, thus achieving the integration of component assembly and wire connection;



(2) The use of FPC can greatly reduce the volume and weight of electronic products, meeting the needs of the development of electronic products towards high-density, miniaturization, and high reliability.



(3) FPC circuit boards also have advantages such as good heat dissipation and solderability, easy assembly, and low overall cost. The design of combining soft and hard materials also partially compensates for the slight deficiency of flexible substrates in component load-bearing capacity.



2. FPC circuit boards also have some drawbacks:



(1) High initial cost at one time.



Due to the fact that FPC circuit boards are designed and manufactured for special applications, the cost of circuit design, wiring, and photographic substrates is relatively high. For conventional application scenarios, FPC circuit boards are generally not used due to cost considerations.



(2) It is difficult to modify and repair FPC circuit boards.



Once the FPC circuit board is made, any changes must start from the base drawing or the programmed photo program. The surface is covered with a protective film, which needs to be removed before repair and restored after repair, which is a relatively difficult task.



(3) Size is limited.



FPC circuit boards are usually manufactured using an intermittent process in the absence of widespread use, but due to limitations in production equipment size, they cannot be made very long or wide.



(4) Improper operation can easily cause damage.



Improper operation by the preparation personnel can easily cause damage to the flexible circuit. FPC soldering and rework require trained personnel to operate.
