Design process and precautions for FPC flexible cable

Firstly, determine the model, manufacturer, specifications, etc. of the connector corresponding to the FPC flexible cable, and evaluate whether the current, service life, installation method, etc. used by the connector can meet the requirements.



2. Produce schematic packaging and PCB packaging, especially PCB packaging. For the first time, follow the manufacturer's recommendations, and update the packaging in a timely manner if there are any changes in actual use in the future.



3. When designing, it is necessary to first draw a schematic diagram. The comment of the component can use the manufacturer's part number, which is convenient for exporting the BOM. At the same time, a network label should be prepared, and then the schematic diagram can be updated to generate a PCB.



4. For power supply networks, it is important to pay attention to the relationship between the amount of current passing through and the line width. The differential line should be routed with equal length and spacing to ensure impedance. It is best to route the line in a one-to-one manner, and the ground wire should not be directly connected at the B position due to the same network identification.



5. The size and aperture of the FPC flexible cable through hole/pad should be 0.2/0.4MM, and should not be smaller as much as possible, otherwise the price will increase. The minimum wire diameter is 0.1mm, the minimum spacing is 0.1mm, and the minimum wire width is 0.12mm. Note that the inner layer thickness of the FPC flexible cable is 0.1mm, which can be used as impedance calculation data. For wires with high current, use a copper thickness of 1.5 ounces or 2 ounces, and pay attention to whether the number of through holes with high current is sufficient.



6. The normal delivery time for FPC flexible cables is 3-4 days, with an expedited delivery time of 1 day and a sample quantity of 20 pieces. When testing the sample, pay attention to the thickness of the FPC flexible cable and the thickness in contact with the seat. In addition, the material of the reinforcing plate includes PP, steel sheet, and glass fiber.



7. The file name, version number, date, etc. printed on the FPC soft ribbon cable should be clear, preferably on both sides. The position number of the connector, first pin indication, etc. should be printed on the screen.
